School Organisation

The school is organised into three classes:
Key Stage 1, which includes Foundation/Reception children and Years 1 and 2.
Foundation children are those children who start part time in the September in the year that they are five. They remain as Foundation children until they reach the term that they are five, when they become full time and are then in the Reception term.
Pupils in Year 1 are 5 -6 years old and pupils in Year 2 are 6-7 years old. During Year 2 children are formally assessed (SATs or Standard Assessment Tests).
Key Stage 2 is divided into 2 classes. Class 2 has Years 3 and 4. Pupils in Year 3 are 7-8 years old and pupils in Year 4 are 8-9 years old.
Class 3 has Years 5 and 6. Year 5 pupils are 9-10 years old and Year 6 pupils are 10-11 years old. At the end of Year 6 pupils are formally assessed (SATs)

Accommodation in the school is used flexibly and includes the activity area.

On Thursday afternoons the local mother and toddler group uses the school’s facilities to meet together and share Class 1’s story time.

The aim is to develop a creative, whole school approach to work and, while older and younger pupils may be engaged in different curricular activities, we allow opportunities to share, appreciate, develop, learn from and celebrate each other’s achievements.

The children are taught the full National Curriculum. The core subjects of English, Maths, Science and ICT, are given emphasis to help the children to develop a depth of knowledge and understanding and to gain skills in these areas. There are objectives or goals setting out what children should know and be able to do at each stage in their schooling. These objectives are called Attainment Targets. For each subject there are descriptions of what the children should be taught to help him/her to achieve the Attainment Targets.

At the same time we try to organise the foundation subjects so the children are able to link and connect their thoughts and learning experiences, covering History, Geography, ICT, DT, Art, Music, RE, PSHE and PE.
